Description:

http://www.ted.com - In an exclusive preview of his new book, The Stuff of Thought, Steven Pinker looks at language, and the way it expresses the workings of our minds. By analyzing common sentences and words, he shows us how, in what we say and how we say it, we're communicating much more than we realize.

You can see the profiles and the vase at the same time if you imagine the profiles are holding the vase up with their faces.

I think his voice is a doppelganger for Ross's dad in FRIENDS - voice-twin(?).

If you read some of his books in advance its a good brain breaker, so this little jog/workout (!) is easier to take in. I recommend his mind/language trilogy (inc. how the mind works, and blank slate) V. good upload from TEDtalks!

Of course, Pinker only reviews the basics - communication is always multi-faceted and the linear thread need only barely hold together several other lines of thought.
