Description: October 22, 2007 - This is the Stevenson Ranch Fire, or "Magic" Fire, a large brushfire that started at 2:17PM and has consumed over 500 acres in Stevenson Ranch, a community adjacent to Santa Clarita and just north of Los Angeles, California. The cause of the fire was accidental; welding by construction workers ignited the blaze. The fire can be seen from the I-5 freeway, a major north-south thoroughfare. Six Flags Magic Mountain, with its many roller coasters, can be seen in the foreground, although Superman, Goliath, Batman the Ride, and Riddler's Revenge are the only coasters that can be seen without much effort. Ostensibly, the Magic Fire makes it appear as though Six Flags Magic Mountain is on fire, as well. The "Magic" Fire is just one of many fires that have struck Southern California, such as the Canyon Fire of Malibu, the Buckweed Fire of Agua Dulce / Santa Clarita, the Ranch Fire of Castaic, and the Santiago Canyon Fire of Orange County, among others. Two Super Scoopers from Canada (call signs "Quebec 1" and "Quebec 2") have been commissioned to combat the "Magic" Fire. The audio in the background was a live broadcast from KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO, where listeners were calling in to relate their experiences in dealing with the fires affecting their area. Information about the Super Scooper: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombardier_CL-415 ****UPDATE!**** As of 10AM on October 24, 2007, the Magic Fire in Stevenson Ranch has been 100% contained. The fire consumed 2,824 acres. God bless the firefighters! |
